How to Balance a Full Time Job & a Blog

For those who do not know, I am not a “full-time blogger,” although, I would like to be someday. After getting a degree in Business Management with a focus in Marketing, I went on to pursue my COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant). During my last semester in college, I started my blog, “All About Nat.” It was easier to blog when the only thing on my plate was school and a part-time job. Now that I am working 40+ hours per week, trying to keep up with my “side hustle” blog is more of a challenge.

This last week was the hardest week for me, though. In addition to my job and my blog, I also help out my friend by keeping her 22mo while she attends her night classes. I pick him up from daycare and keep him until around 9:30pm two nights a week. If that is not a lot to keep up with, I also moved into my new apartment this past weekend. So, all last week I was hurrying to pack up my whole apartment as well as take care of my other responsibilities. When I get super stressed, I lean on a few helpful tips to help me relax and de-stress.

  1. I am only human. Sometimes I can be too much of a perfectionist. I find it hard to accept little hiccups that happen. I have to often remind myself during seasons where I am extremely busy that it is okay if things do not go according to my plan.
  2. It is okay to ask for help. I can be too independent sometimes. I like to take care of things by myself. During seasons where I feel overwhelmed, I have to remember that asking for help from someone else does not mean I cannot do it on my own. It is actually wise to receive assistance when the load is overflowing.
  3. Take a bath. If you need to relax, a great way to do that is to take a detox bath and unwind. I like to do this at least once a week to de-stress from all that life throws at me. It is the perfect reset for the body and mind.

I am certainly not an expert on “de-stressing,” but I do know that these three things work for me. I hope they work for you, too. Have you ever felt overwhelmed or stressed to the max? I would love to hear some ways that you de-stress as well. Leave a comment below.
